It is a little louder than the top model, but the dimensions and weight are identical. It offers solid and comfortable E-MTB technology for longer tours and, thanks to the low Q factor of 177 millimeters (measurement of the crank width), enables a natural pedaling motion, especially when the support is switched off.

Thanks to the compact design with high rigidity, the power is transferred directly to the road without any major losses. The powerful one - Steps E 8000 MTB

The flagship of the Shimano Steps family is the powerful Steps E 8000, which was specially developed for e-MTBs. Despite its maximum output of 70 Nm (250 W), it is one of the lightest e-bike drives available on the market with a weight of 2.8 kilograms.

The compact design allows bike manufacturers to use shorter stays, which makes for easy handling and agile riding, as required on narrow trails. The cadence regulates the even and smooth electrical support, ensuring relaxed uphill rides.

The long-lasting Li-Ion battery with 504 Wh achieves a range of around 100 kilometers in Eco mode with climbs of around 800 meters. Overall, the Steps E 8000 offers the support levels Eco, Trail and Boost up to 25 km/h, the latter with a support of 300 percent, as well as the Walk setting for pushing the E-MTB.

Changing gears is done using the intuitive Firebolt switch, which is ergonomically designed to meet the needs of e-MTBs. The display attached to the handlebars provides information about the gear selected, the support level and the range of the battery.

The Powerful One - Steps EP8

The EP8 is the latest model in the Steps E-drive series and, with 85 Nm of torque at 250 watts, provides even more power that is also easy to control. In summary, the EP8 is smaller, quieter and more powerful than the other models.

The sensitive response ensures optimal control of the e-bike at all times and can prove its capabilities especially on steep passages and challenging trails. At 2.6 kilograms, it is almost 300 grams lighter and does its job almost silently. This is also ensured by the innovative motor housing, which contains heat-conducting magnesium materials that deliver consistently good performance even when the motor is under heavy strain.

The resistance in the EP8 motor itself is now 38% lower than before. This makes pedalling beyond 25 km/h much easier, ideal for riders who want to save battery power on longer tours.

The power comes from one of three possible batteries, which are either installed on the down tube or fully integrated into the frame and have a long-lasting power of 504 Wh or 630 Wh. Using the quick-charge function, all Steps batteries can be recharged to 80 percent within around 2 hours. This creates a range that also makes ambitious bikepacking adventures on a mountain bike or trekking bike possible.
