There is no doubt that this brings with it some special features in terms of handling and riding behavior, because an electric single-speed bike (fixie bike) cannot be compared to a trekking or city bike . However, you should know exactly what distinguishes the electric single-speed bike from models with gears at MYVELO and whether this e-bike variant is suitable for you. We will present all the important information in more detail below.

What disadvantages can a single-speed e-bike have?
Despite all the advantages mentioned, a single-speed e-bike (single-speed fixie), like any other type of bike, has a few disadvantages - one to be precise. The lack of gears makes the ride uphill a little more strenuous and it is less suitable for rides through hilly landscapes.
If you don't use a chain tensioner on your single speed, the chain elongation will always need to be compensated. This can be achieved, for example, by adjusting the bottom bracket or the position of the rear wheel. It may also be necessary to readjust the rear brake.
Of course, things are different with an e-bike with gears: Here you can always adjust the gear to the current route profile so that you don't have to exert yourself too much and the focus is on riding comfort. Our city and trekking e-bikes come with a high-quality Shimano gear system as standard - if you don't want to do without this comfort, we recommend one of our lifestyle pedelecs , for example.
This is what you should consider before buying a singlespeed bike
You also have to take into account that the road safety is not as high as with a modern city bike with full equipment due to the lack of gears - and possibly also the lack of brakes (only on some fixies).
We therefore recommend that you buy an electric single-speed bike, especially if you know about the technical finesse or already have some experience with a single-speed bike - after all, the most important thing is the fun of riding, which will definitely not be neglected with the models of the MYVELO e-bike brand !
E-bike single speed or gears?

The most important thing to consider before buying is to ask yourself what you want to use your bike for. Accordingly, a single-speed e-bike (single-speed fixie) or geared bike may be better suited to getting you around the city or the countryside effortlessly every day.

The most important information practically summarized in our FAQ
Singlespeed bikes, also called fixies, are bicycles with one gear. They can be ridden in freewheel mode or with a fixed gear. The frames are similar to those of a racing bike and are often made of steel.
The gear ratio of a single-speed bike consists of the combination of chainring and pinion. For sporty bikes, a large chainring with a small pinion is chosen so that the gear ratio runs smoothly.
Fixie stands for fixed gear. This means that the bike has a fixed gear and no gears. Fixie bikes are particularly light and can be ridden in a very sporty manner thanks to their design.
With a single speed you can travel quickly and can reach speeds of up to 35 km/h. Usually the speeds stay a little lower because the light wheels can sway a little in strong winds. For many riders, a speed of around 25 km/h is therefore more comfortable and offers plenty of riding fun. In addition, at higher speeds you have to comply with certain approvals that are not necessary below 25 km/h.
