Men and women are different. This is very obvious, at least physically. But does that mean they need a different e-bike than men? In this article, we explain what the differences are and what women should look out for when buying an e-bike.
It wasn't that long ago that there were mainly women's and men's bikes. For women there was the typical city bike with a low entry , for men there was the classic touring bike with a crossbar - also known as a top tube among experts. Those days are over.
Today, the range of bicycles is difficult to keep track of and is very diverse. There is a suitable bicycle for almost every need. Given this diversity, the division into women's and men's e-bikes is no longer sufficient, even if it still occurs.
The most obvious difference between e-bikes is the frame. So first a brief overview of the different e-bike frame shapes. One of the classic frame designs is the diamond frame , which characterizes the typical shape of a bicycle.
At its core, it consists of three tubes: the horizontal top tube, down tube and seat tube. This results in a triangular shape, which is completed by struts on the rear triangle and the fork and head tube in the front section. At the end, depending on how you look at it, two or three triangles can be seen. Hence the name diamond.
This construction is considered to be very stable and torsion-resistant. On newer, sportier bikes such as e-bike MTBs, racing bikes or touring bikes, you increasingly see a top tube that is slightly inclined backwards. This keeps the frame stable, but offers more room for additional comfort.
If the top tube is very steeply slanted, it is called a trapezoidal frame . Originally, women's e-bikes were equipped with this frame, but today it is more commonly referred to as a unisex e-bike frame. Its advantage is that it is more comfortable to get on without sacrificing stability and ergonomics.
The last category is the E-Bike Wave frame , which is usually used on city bikes and is characterized by a low entry. Many E-bikes are equipped with such a frame because it allows older cyclists to ride safely and comfortably.
Although most e-bikes can be assigned to one of these three categories, this is not a gender-specific classification. E-bikes with a low entry are certainly mainly ridden by women. Our Ibiza model is particularly popular with women.
When it comes to e-bikes in the city category, however, it is clear that age also plays an important role in this selection. However, there are a few special features that women should consider when it comes to the frame. This has less to do with the frame shape than with its size and special geometry.
The proportions of male and female bodies are different. Women have - on average, of course - a shorter upper body, but longer legs. This ratio of leg length to upper body length is important for the frame geometry. The bicycle industry is therefore increasingly offering specially developed e-bike frames for women.
At first glance, these look exactly like the men's bike, but the details are adapted to female proportions. The top tube is usually a little shorter. This changes the entire frame geometry and, among other things, ensures a slightly more upright sitting position. But don't worry, the basic functionality and liveliness are not restricted by this.
Depending on the application, it may be worth choosing a special women's e-bike frame. However, unisex frames are common, which suit both genders with a correspondingly wide selection of frame sizes and, if it doesn't fit at all, can be adjusted with a shorter stem, for example.
Because women - again, only the average - are often smaller, they also need smaller bikes. Choosing the right frame size is therefore much more important than the frame shape. Frame sizes from 48 to 54 are common for women. If you are between two sizes, you should always choose the smaller version. An e-bike that is a little too small can be easily adjusted, a bike that is too big is simply too big.
There are also a few specific features for women that can be taken into account in the other components. For example, this could be a slightly narrower handlebar, because women are usually a bit narrower and therefore have a smaller grip width.
Especially when you want to cover longer distances on a bike, such aspects make the difference between comfort and tense shoulders. This also applies to the e-bike saddle, which is undoubtedly the most important point of contact with the bike. Here, too, retailers offer a wide selection.
The only way to determine which saddle fits best is to try it out. Your sitting position on the bike can be a rough guide to the width of the saddle. The more upright the sitting position, the wider the saddle should be. It doesn't matter whether a man or a woman is sitting on the saddle. The padding of the saddle also has an impact.
For e-bikes that are mainly used for short periods of time and on short journeys in everyday life, the padding can be a little thicker. For sporty use over several hours, however, a hard e-bike saddle is more advantageous.
It sounds strange at first, but it is due to the body's ability to adapt to the strain. Riding on a heavily padded saddle for several hours is then perceived as rather uncomfortable.
Most e-bike saddle types are offered as unisex versions. But there are also versions designed specifically for women's e-bikes, which are based on the different physiognomy of women and are usually labeled accordingly.
Nevertheless, women can get along well with a unisex saddle, because it really depends mainly on the distance between the sit bones and the position in which you sit on the women's e-bike.
E-bikes such as our women's E Bike Palermo are usually initially equipped with a unisex saddle. Additional comfort can then be provided by a suspension seat post, which can also be adjusted to the lower weight of women.
We have seen so far that the differences between men and women are not that significant. It is much more important to have a bike for the right purpose.
A rider who enjoys sporty riding would probably not be happy with a women's e-bike city bike , and an e-bike MTB is also only suitable to a limited extent for longer cycling trips.
Comfort is therefore another factor to consider when buying a bike. In addition to the aspects already mentioned, this is also influenced by the handling of the bike. Because e-bikes are not only exposed to the mechanical energy of the rider, but also have the power of an electric motor acting on the frame, particularly high demands are placed on stability. And that is why they are also heavier.
While a good e-bike touring bike weighs between 14 and 16 kilograms, the electric version will weigh well over 20 kilograms. However, this is hardly noticeable because the motor always offers enough support.
It's only when you have to push your e-bike that you quickly notice the increased weight. But MYVELO 's e-bikes are equipped with an idle function. Simply press a button on the cockpit and the motor will support you up to a comfortable walking speed of around 6 km/h.
There is something special about men and women when buying an e-bike. This does not mean the cliché of a pink frame or a floral pattern. For women, it is more about everyday suitability and comfort in an e-bike. For many women, a complete set of features with a luggage rack, smooth brakes, mudguards and lights is simply a must.
At MYVELO, most e-bikes are equipped with these components or can be retrofitted. For riders who prefer a sporty e-bike but also want to use it in everyday life, we have the Equipped models , such as our women's e-bike Palermo EQP.
They are also considered the SUVs among the MYVELO E-MTBs, which do not hide their sporty genes, but are also equipped with a lightweight hand-made luggage rack and with powerful busch+müller IQ lighting always ensure the right view.
This means that everyday usability, comfort and sportiness can be combined. If you still don't want to do without the bicycle basket that is popular with women, you will also find the necessary space for it.
Women's e-bikes are still on trend and allow for a relaxing ride and sport in equal measure. There are many new models that are worth a closer look. We at myvélo are constantly developing our women's e-bike product range.
Extended versions of our trend bikes on the market outdo each other with new functions: more range, powerful batteries and motors and a whole host of accessories. This in turn reduces the e-bike prices of the predecessors, which already had impressive performance. Not only male sports enthusiasts, but also more and more women are discovering the advantages of e-bike mobility for themselves.
Women's e-bike cycling is generally characterized by the fact that it trains all of the muscles while protecting the joints. It combines endurance and strength training in a perfect symbiosis. It's also a lot of fun. Cycling tours provide the daily exercise needed and strengthen the cardiovascular system. Women can burn calories and get from one place to another faster.
Instead of driving, an e-bike tour is a great alternative and offers a similar level of comfort without having to pedal. The models and women's e-bikes are becoming more and more optimized, including in terms of weight, design, equipment and battery. The things that are always strenuous on a bike, especially long distances, headwinds, inclines and uphill rides, are much easier on an e-bike.
The ride is comfortable and can be done without breaking out in a sweat. The sophisticated e-bike equipment with pedal assistance and motor drive allows you to tackle even strenuous tours at any time. In fact, it is possible to ride many kilometers without the motor constantly running and at the same time without sore muscles the next day.
In addition, women's e-bikes are designed so that they can be used in a similar way to a normal women's e-bike and the pedals can be operated without the motor power. E-bikes are a little heavier, but this is hardly noticeable when riding and pedaling.
The women's e-bike is just as easy to ride and use as a bicycle. It is equipped with lights, brakes, gears, a luggage rack and extras, but it also has a motor, battery and on-board computer.
The computer with drive assistant is switched on and the speed is determined. Most models have several support modes that make pedaling easier. Other data can be found on the display, such as the battery indicator, the speed, the kilometers traveled and the battery range.
The amount of thrust the motor contributes to the pedaling movement is set. Each e-bike also has the gears required for shifting. Women's e-bikes are divided into models with an auxiliary motor, which are called Pedelecs, and pure women's e-bikes, which function in a similar way to a moped. The latter can also be ridden without pedals, while Pedelecs have their advantages through support modes that make pedaling easier.
Such models are particularly well suited to combining sport and driving pleasure. In Europe, they are the better choice because their top speed of 25 km/h means they meet legal guidelines and are approved for road use without the need for registration or insurance.
There is now a wide variety of women's e-bikes, from trekking e-bikes to women's e-bike cross and urban e-bikes to foldable or collapsible women's e-bike models. The e-bike is dynamic as a mountain bike with a stable frame and sporty seating position. The fully e-bike with full suspension allows for a little more performance.
For women who like to take their ladies e-bike with them in the car to ride in the forest, by a lake or in the mountains, our compact folding bikes from MYVELO, which are also slightly lighter in weight, are worthwhile.
Modern e-bike fat bikes , which have thicker tires and are more similar to mopeds, are popular. Women's e-bikes are also available as racing bikes, city e-bikes or e-bike cargo bikes. Which women's e-bike is the right one depends on individual wishes and needs.
The women's bike is produced in large numbers and its features are constantly being improved. Several factors play a role in the purchase decision. The choice of women's e-bike depends on how often it is used, which details of the equipment are important and where the rides mainly take place.
The e-bike is also ideal for holidays or longer trips. Riding is a real pleasure, which is confirmed not only by sports enthusiasts and e-bike riders. Even people who don't like to move around are amazed at how easy it is to use the e-bike thanks to its high-quality features.
Our women's e-bike pedelecs from MYVELO are practically designed and have a battery, motor, gear shift, control electronics, sensor and on-board computer. The motor power is designed for the support level, which can be set in several stages on all women's e-bike models.
The control is done via the display on the handlebars, while the support is automatically switched on at the respective level whenever the pedal pressure increases. The built-in sensor detects the rider's pedal and crank movements and provides the energy when it is needed.
The entire women's e-bike is designed, constructed and braked to suit this riding characteristic. As an alternative to pedal assistance, there are e-bikes with a pure motor drive or models that combine both, allowing both pedal assistance and accelerating.
Without pedals or your own pedaling, the motor is controlled via a twist grip or switch button, similar to how it works on mopeds or scooters. Accordingly, you can accelerate without having to do anything yourself.
However, S-Pedelecs with a speed limit of 25 km/h and pure pedal assistance are also popular. These can have a motor with an output of up to 4000 watts and offer several support modes.
The women's bike is now designed to be very dynamic and sporty. Some women's e-bike models have a thinner frame and therefore no longer look as bulky as their predecessors. Access to the pedal assist is possible at any time, while normal pedaling is also possible.
As an e-bike manufacturer, we focus on design, quality and comfort, performance and drive. It can be used in a variety of ways, for example for city trips, the way to work, for tours, holidays and off-road trips.
There are some important criteria that are equally important for men and women and their women's e-bikes. Above all, value is placed on the stable frame and the powerful motor. But that alone is not all that needs to be taken into account.
Before buying, you need to check the road traffic regulations. There are models that are approved for Europe and internationally. For the European area, the e-bikes have limited engine power and can travel up to 25 km/h. The international version allows a speed of up to 45 km/h. However, such women's e-bikes are not permitted on European roads.
The women's bike should be characterized by a high level of comfort and riding convenience, especially because it can be used for longer distances.
More comfort is provided by the ergonomics and construction, a high-quality damping system, a padded saddle, good suspension and the right distance between the handlebars and saddle.
E-bikes that allow individual adjustment of the saddle and handlebar height are excellent. Although women (women's e-bikes) are generally a little smaller than men, the distance between the saddle and handlebars and the height of both areas should be coordinated.
Another important purchase criterion is the range of the women's e-bike. This is determined by the capacity of the battery, given in watt hours (Wh). Many newer models surprise with their powerful battery, which is either pushed into the frame, sits in the seat post or is installed under the luggage rack.
The battery is usually a lithium-ion model and can be easily charged in just a few hours. Most weigh a good 5 kilograms and can be removed. In other women's e-bikes, the battery is permanently integrated and charging takes place directly by connecting the cable to the frame.
When buying a women's e-bike, the range should play an important role. Even for shorter trips, the powerful battery with a longer range is worthwhile. The modern women's e-bike impresses with ranges of between 50 and 100 kilometers.
Some expensive models even manage 150 to 200 kilometers, although the battery life always depends on the demands of the route, the weight of the rider and the use of the motor and pedal assistance.
Those who ride at the highest level of support are more likely to reduce the number of kilometers driven than a sensible division into lower levels of support, which are then switched on when they are needed.
Cadences between 60 and 80 revolutions per minute are excellent for saving energy. If the e-bike is also coupled with a powerful motor, the battery is protected and the range is increased.
The on-board computer provides the important data when driving with the motor. It sits on the handlebars and allows a direct view of speed, range, battery level, calorie consumption, kilometers traveled and other data.
All important settings are also made via the computer, such as whether pedal assistance is required, the power of the motor, the maximum speed at which the assistance level is set, and more.
A gear system with multiple gears is also an advantage for women's e-bikes. This makes pedaling easier and can be easily adjusted to your own riding needs. Models with gears from 6 to 7 gears up to 11 gears are excellent.
That depends entirely on the category I'm looking for my women's e-bike. In conjunction with the motor power and pedal assistance, this number is enough to move effortlessly or to quickly tackle the odd incline. A good braking system is the be-all and end-all of a women's e-bike.
We at myvélo specify the maximum permissible load for women's e-bikes, which determines both the load and the range. The total weight can then be calculated from this.
It is made up of the empty weight of the women's e-bike and the weight of the rider. E-bikes usually have a slightly higher empty weight. This is due to the built-in motor and battery used.
It is worth taking a look at the weight before buying, because the women's e-bike should be flexible to maneuver and easy to push. Easy handling increases the comfort of use, e.g. if the women's e-bike has to be brought into the basement.
E-bikes have revolutionized the bicycle market, so myvélo as a manufacturer always responds proactively to demand and constantly improves our models. Clear trends are emerging in improvements in battery performance, charging speed and battery storage, but also in terms of drive systems and range.
Compact motors and sophisticated control electronics and sensors are combined with practical damping and ventilation systems, which further increase the fun of riding. Suspension in the saddle and wheel area allows for more comfort on uneven roads.
There are also innovations in the form of better computers and displays. The setting options aim to achieve very precise and fine adjustment of the required pedal support. This makes it possible to save electricity by defining the individual stages with a certain motor power or by switching the starting aid on and off.
E-bike women's SUVs and foldable e-bikes for women with high-quality equipment, lighting and integrated ventilation are in demand.
While men tend to value high speed and flexibility, women think more practically and want comfort and stability. There is a lot on offer, especially in the area of e-bikes. Folding bikes are experiencing a boom, for example our "Rio" and "Palma" versions.
They impress with their low weight of between 15 and 25 kilograms and their manageable size, which can be easily folded and stored in a car. The design of these e-bikes is well thought out and makes them easy to use. At the same time, there is no compromise in terms of performance, comfort or stability.
The folding bike impresses with its sporty design, long range, a lightweight battery with high performance and many functions for individual activation of the support levels. Transport is very easy as the bike folds to a minimal size, so the space saving compared to trekking and city bikes is another purchase criterion that is also future-oriented.
In terms of equipment, the folding models have many options, such as luggage racks, splash guards, bike bags and high-quality padded saddles.
The diamond frame is one of the classics of frame construction . It is considered to be very stable and torsion-resistant. If the top tube is strongly bevelled, it is called a Trapezoid frame. Its advantage is that it is more comfortable to get on, along with stability and ergonomics. The E-Bike Wave frame is used for city bikes and has a low entry.
Comfort is influenced by the handling of the bike, among other aspects. While a good e-bike touring bike weighs between 14 and 16 kilograms, the electric version will weigh well over 20 kilograms. However, this is hardly noticeable because the motor always offers enough support.
Women's e-bike cycling is generally characterized by the fact that it trains all of the muscles while at the same time being gentle on the joints. Long distances, headwinds, inclines and uphill rides are much easier on an e-bike. E-bikes are a little heavier, but this is hardly noticeable when riding and pedaling.
